The
San Beda College of Law did it again!
The
three Bedans copped third, eight
and ninth place in the top ten list
of successful bar examinees. The
last time this has occurred was
in 1989. In 1985, three ladies earned
for San Beda College the same honor.
Eric
R. Recalde bagged third place,
garnering an average of 90.3 percent
in the much-awaited exam. A native
of Sta. Cruz, Bukidnon, he was born
on July 2, 1976 to Mr. Pedro R.
Recalde and Mrs. Belen Racho-Recalde.
He took up Accountancy in San Beda
in 1996 and graduated Cum Laude
and passed the CPA board exams landing
in the 11th place. He was Class
Salutatorian of this year's San
Beda Law graduates.
Rex
S. Austia Landed in the eight

A native of San Nicolas, Batangas,
he was born on January 8, 1973 to
Mariano Austria and Herminia de
Sagun-Austia. He is guidance counselor
and faculty member of San Beda.
He ranked seventh among this year's
law graduates. He presently resides
Sampaloc, Manila.
George
O. Ortha II earned the ninth

on his exam. He was born to George
B. Ortha and Merilyn Orcullo-Ortha.
In 1996, he took up Accountancy
in San Beda and graduated with Academic
Distinction. He is a CPA board passer
and ranked 16 in this year's Law
Class. He presently resides in Sampaloc,
Manila.
San
Beda College of Law has a passing
percentage of 84.62 percent. Overall
passing percentage for all Law schools
is 19.68 percent. Proof that San
Beda College is one of the best
law schools in the country.
As
a Catholic educational institution,
the mission of San Beda College
is to produce men and women who
are "fully human, wholly Christian
and truly Filipino." In the
light of this mission, the San Beda
College of Law aims to produce lawyers
who are learned in the law and who
conduct themselves according to
Christian principles and to and
noblest traditions of the bench
and the bar. To realize this objective,
San Beda educate the mind to legal
provisions and the heart in justice,
civic consciousness, and respect
for law, authority and human rights.
After
the vicissitudes of World War II,
San Beda College decided to expand
her role in the higher education
of the Filipino Youth, and on July
11, 1948, opened the College of
Law. This college began with the
first year of the law course and
progressively opened upper classes
from year to year. Ultimately, the
full four-year course leading to
the degree of Bachelor of Laws was
offered on June 25, 1951 when the
fourth year was offered for the
first time.
The
San Beda method of instruction is
based on the combined lecture and
question-and-answer. This has proved
to be more successful in effecting
the harmonious development of the
student's potential in reasoning
and exposition. The restatement
of the codal provisions is followed
by a discussion of the basic philosophy
underlying the same, and winds up
with an analysis of the classic
jurisprudence exemplifying the application
of the legal doctrine involved.
The professors lecture on the fine
as well as the doubtful points of
law, the propre interpretation,
construction, harmonization and
application of apparently conflicting
legal theories and bring the students
up to date in the latest judicial
rulings. Individual attention is
given to each student. Handicaps,
personal traits and other circumstances
are properly evaluated, to the end
that the studies of every student
may be channeled along the branch
of law to which he is best suited.
