developing and training the Bedan
community to be knowledgeable
and competent in undertaking research
and development planning and to
continually enhance the organizational
capability of San Beda College
to undertake research.
The
general objective of RPDC is to
upgrade the organizational and
manpower capabilities of San Beda
College to undertake globally
competitive research and development
planning activities.
Its
goals are:
To
improve the organizational capabilities
of San Beda College by establishing
the necessary physical facilities
needed to undertake scholarly
research, such as equipment (computers,
scanners, software, etc.) and
facilities like a spacious research
room and library, research office,
etc.; securing funding needed
to provide liberal incentives
and privileges to faculty members,
staff/personnel, and students
who wish to undertake scholarly
research; conducting a series
of trainings, seminars, and workshops
that seek to hone and sharpen
the research skill of the faculty
members and administrators; seeking
assistance and services of outside
research practitioners to read
and give comments on research
proposals and studies submitted
to PRDC as well as serve as advisers
or consultants in some research
projects preparing the necessary
policies, programs, guidelines,
systems and procedures, contracts,
memoranda of agreements for faculty
members and desiring to apply
for research grants; do commissioned
research (either by San Beda College
or outside agencies like the Commission
on Higher Education), and undertake
research training with RPDC; establishing
research criteria, guidelines
and format that meet international
standards that are globally competitive
creating a strong database that
would compile basic historical
data and information about San
Beda College, e.g. profiles of
students faculty members, staff
and personnel, alumni, etc.
To
enhance the manpower capabilities
of San Beda College to undertake
research by regularly conducting
seminars and workshops on topics
relating to research in the academe
providing on-the-job training
to faculty members willing to
undertake hands-on research with
RPDC commissioning qualified faculty
members to conduct research in
behalf of RPDC promoting the conduct
of research studies among faculty
members and staff on issues that
seek to raise the level and quality
of education and institution not
only of San Beda College but also
of educational institutions in
general.
To
initiate the formulation, implementation,
and monitoring of a Six-Year Institutional
Development Plans and assist in
the preparation of the Development
Plans of the different academic
departments and offices to ensure
that it continually responds to
the changing needs of the outside
world.
To
respond to the research, planning
and administrative needs of the
Office of the Rector-President,
Board of Administrators, Executive
Council, and the deans and principals
of the various academic departments.
To
undertake the publication of all
research outputs as a means of
disseminating its findings, conclusions
and policy recommendations to
the public.
As perceived by the Commission
on Higher Education, educational
institutions have three equally
important and interrelated functions:
education (academic), research,
and community extension. These
three interconnecting functions
form a tripod, which constitute
the basis and foundation of schools.
In this respect, the institutional
RPDC needs to be structurally
placed under a higher body. In
other tertiary institutions, there
is a Vice President for Research,
under whom the director will directly
report to the Office of the Rector-President.
RPDC
will be manned by a director.
Fr. Anscar J. Chupungco, OSB,
Rector-President, has appointed
Dr. Leopoldo Dejillas as director
of RPDC who will work together
with a pool of research associates
representing the various departments
of San Beda College.
Research
associates will come from faculty
members who are willing to undergo
training on the mechanics and
processes of formulating, implementing,
administering, and disseminating
research and development planning
activities. Eventually, there
can be as many research associates
as there are interested faculty
members who would like to undergo
apprentice work in research or
who desire to do research work.
Research
associates will graduate to the
level of Senior Researcher once
they have passed the training
program that will be designed
for this purpose. However, the
research associates do not hold
office in RPDC. Eventually a full-time
secretary with research experience
shall be hired to take care of
the daily needs of the office.
RPDC
commits itself to instilling and
propagating the following core
values in all its endeavors: truth,
justice, democracy, respect, service,
commitment teamwork, excellence,
and competence.
