San Beda College Manila is very privileged and blessed to have Very Reverend Father Aloysius Ma. A. Maranan, OSB as its twenty-second Rector-President, nearing the end of the first decade on its second centenary and the third millennium, A distinguished educator, a visionary leader, a personification of the Benedictine ideals of pax, ora et labora, a true servant of the Church and a man of God, Fr. Aloysius brings to this 109-year old Benedictine school, his impressive curriculum vitae, his passion for his apostolate, and his commitment to the mission of Christian Benedictine education.
Dom Aloysius Maranan, fondly called ”Father Aloy” by friends, was born in Alitagtag, Batangas on September 21, 1962, to Engnr. Ismael Maranan and Gloria Albay (+). His scholarly pursuits have been characterized by excellence: a holder of a doctorate degree in Educational Management from De La Salle University graduating with high honors; master of arts, major in Theological Studies (Magna Cum Laude) from Maryhill School of Theology Quezon City; a licentiate in Canon Law from the University of Sto. Tomas; a Bachelor of Arts major in Economics from San Beda College; and certificate courses in Strategic Planning for Educational Leaders and Financial Positioning for Educational Managers at the Asian Institute of Management.
In May, 1986, Fr. Aloy professed his simple vows as a Benedictine, and was ordained priest on April 21, 1991. Although no true monk ever aspires for high office, Fr. Aloy prepared well for his many educational leadership positions, to include among others: rector-president of San Beda College Alabang (2001-2004): dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of San Beda College Alabang (2001-2002); vice rector and principal of San Beda College Rizal (2007-2010); high school principal of San Beda College Alabang (1998-2001). Amid his demanding key roles in school, he found time to teach at the College of Arts and Sciences, Grade School department and the College of Medicine. |

If Fr. Aloy has accomplished much as an educator, this can be attributed not only to his intellect and competence, but moreso to his faithfulness to God’s calling and innately good character.
