In 2002, a group of UP trained physicians and academicians together with the San Beda College set up the San Beda College of Medicine offering a post- graduate degree in medicine. With 140 freshmen in its pioneer batch, the college started in Mandaluyong City moving a year later to the Mendiola campus of San Beda College. Today, the college has a full four-year doctor of medicine program committed to developing competent and compassionate general practitioners capable of delivering medical care to the community and equally prepared to proceed to medical specialization. Competence is achieved by a close collaboration of the pre-clinical and clinicalsciences. Subjects in our organ system based curriculum are taught via traditional classroom lecture-based instructions. Learning is reinforced with small group activities focused on integrating the different biomedical sciences. The development and mastery of clinical skills are achieved through clinical activities closely supervised by the faculty who give immediate feedback to students. Computer and internet based resources provide the students with current information necessary in medical education.

All freshmen students are assigned a faculty mentor who will serve as an experienced guide for one entering into the profession. The student and mentor meet regularly to discuss the student’s progress and provide guidance for future plans.

The faculty of the college of medicine is composed of senior and junior teaching staff, who combine experience and excellence with dynamism and technological expertise in their teaching.

Our medical education is built on the Benedictine tradition of “Ora et Labora” – Prayer and Work. The college encourages our students and faculty to continuously strive for Christian perfection in their lives and in their work, knowing the work well done offered up to God is prayer worthy of God. Through study and work, the students develop the virtues of integrity, perseverance and a love for learning. Through their clinical work with patients and their families, both in the hospital and the community, under the supervision of the faculty of the college, the students develop into compassionate and caring health providers.
