Research Program

To create an environment conducive to generating research within and across fields of study in San Beda University, and to engaging with other colleges, universities on collaborative research, and to serve as SBU's repository of information and data for well-informed and systematic institutional decision-making, planning, policy development, program implementation, and evaluation.


RPKMC aims to sharpen the research and planning competencies of its administrators, faculty and students and push the frontiers of knowledge in various areas of study. It also seeks to contribute to the overall development of SBU by providing leadership in systematizing, institutional information and procedures for effective planning and direction-setting of SBU's research, planning, and development programs through conduct of training, education, national and international linkage activities with the academe, industry and government. As official repository it will provide data and information to the administration, colleges, offices, other stakeholders and external bodies for management, assessment, and related purposes.

The Agenda

Given the spectrum of faculty and student interests and disciplines, SBU will attempt to advance knowledge on four key areas:


a) Scientific, Philosophical and Socio-cultural dimensions of Sustainable Environmental Management (Primary disciplines involved: Human Biology, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Humanities and Social Sciences, Theology and Philosophy, Basic Education)

b) Improving Human Health and Wellness (Primary disciplines involved: Nursing, Medicine, Human Biology, Physical Education-Sports and Wellness Management, Basic Education)

c) Promoting Entrepreneurship, Productivity and Competitiveness (Primary disciplines involved: Business, Accountancy, Financial Management, Legal Management, Information Technology, Marketing, Corporate Communication, Human Resource Development, Law)

d) Transformational Leadership and Value Formation (Primary disciplines involved: Basic Education, Law, Theology, Liturgy, Philosophy, Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, Corporate Communication)

Faculty and Staff Development Grants Program

San Beda University's dedication to the Christian formation of the youth stands to the forefront of the millennium. The national and global feats of Bedan luminaries testify to this commitment.


Faculty development is eyed as among the key strategies to bring more to the fold. To cultivate instructional technology and research, the College poses a challenge to "move out of comfort zones for the sake of learning, authenticity and integrity" to "foster intellectual and personal breakthroughs." (Conversation, the way to formation and transformation - Education within the Benedictine Wisdom Tradition. 2007.)


Programs include support to graduate studies and scholarly works such as publication in high impact journals, journal presentation in local and international conferences and networking with institutions in the country and abroad.


In particular, the Institutional Faculty Development Grants Program (IFDGP) allots the following in support to scholarly works and instructional initiatives of full time faculty members:


PhP 40,000.00 to PhP 50,000.00

Doctoral dissertation writing

International conference travel costs to present an accepted, peer-reviewed, or competitive paper

Supplemental funds to an approved externally funded research or collaborative research with other colleges and universities

PhP 25,000.00 to PhP 39,000.00

Research data collection and/or analysis related to an on-going dissertation research

Production, pretesting and post-testing of new instructional materials (Print, audio-visual, etc.)

PhP 10,000.00 to PhP 25,000.00

Writing of a chapter in a nationally or internationally recognized scholarly book or monograph

New data analysis related to an accepted article in a peer-reviewed and nationally or internationally recognized journal

The Office of the Rector-President through RPRDC utilizes this program to form a faculty at pace with the continuous surge of globalization and the up-spiral demands of the industry. The vision to form the Filipino youth in service to the country and the Church requires faculty members who are academic trail blazers avant-garde in their respective fields of discipline.


To this end, the College initiated various platforms to continuously elevate the faculty. Among these is the support for graduate studies either in SBU or other higher learning institutions in the country our abroad.
